Compact Voice briefing on the Lobbying Bill published

big benCompact Voice have published a short briefing on The Transparency of Lobbying, Non-Party Campaigning and Trade Union Administration Bill (often referred to as the Lobbying Bill).

The briefing includes information on:

  • How the Bill came about;
  • What it originally proposed;
  • What the perceived problems with the Bill are;
  • What changes were made at reporting stage; and
  • How the Bill relates to the Compact.

It also includes historical examples of lobbying activity undertaken by charities, where similar activities undertaken today would potentially be impacted upon by the Bill.

In September, Compact Voice wrote to Chloe Smith raising concerns about the Bill. Compact Voice's chair, Simon Blake OBE, has since met with Tom Brake, the Deputy Leader of the House of Commons to discuss the Bill and raise our concerns. We will be continuing to work on this area and updates will be posted in due course.

For more information, NCVO have also published a range of information, including a series of very useful blogs, which can be read at http://blogs.ncvo.org.uk.
