A welcome change to health commissioning guidance

We read this morning of a welcome development in commissioning health services, which reverses years of unequal practice across the country. The new guidance issued to commissioners by the Department of Health, specifically attempts to remove barriers to service providers from outside the NHS tendering for work, and changes to the Primary care trust procurement guide for health services specify that the "procurement process should not give an advantage to any sector".
Compact Voice is pleased with this new development, which sends a message to commissioners to abandon the "preferred provider" stance which many have taken over previous years. The move has been welcomed by other voluntary sector representatives including the Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations (ACEVO), who praised the government for listening to voluntary sector concerns.
