We are the voice of the voluntary sector on the Compact (PDF 286KB) - an agreement between the sector and the Government to ensure better working together. Our network of over 2,300 members ranges from community organisations to large national charities, and our Board members are from front line groups and umbrella bodies, in turn representing over 20,000 voluntary and community groups.

We support the voluntary sector through:

  • Sharing best practice across England on improving partnerships between the public and voluntary sectors
  • Providing information and resources to share issues and solutions
  • Holding and speaking at events across England
  • Meeting regularly and advocating for the sector to government, at both local and national level  
  • offering practical help and guidance on how to get the Compact working for your organisation

National leadership from government: Setting the mood music for local partnerships

This week I was pleased to be invited to be on the panel of All Party Parliamentary Group on Civil Society and Volunteering to discuss the National Audit Office's recent report on central government's implementation of the Compact.  Also on the panel were David Clarke from the NAO, and the Minister for Civil Society, Nick Hurd.

	Recently, the National Audit Office published their long awaited report on how central government is implementing the Compact. It’s certainly interesting reading - containing some things we had expected, as well as some surprises - and it sends a clear message both to the government and the sector that more needs to be done to ensure stronger implementation of the Compact.
